What a weird week for Kennys Vargas.
The 27-year-old power hitter was designated for release by the Twins on Mar. 16, claimed by the Reds on Thursday, then waived and claimed by the Twins on Saturday.
Brandon Warne of Zone Coverage speculates that the Twins waived Vargas before learning that shortstop Jorge Polanco would be suspended 80 games for PEDs, and that they never would’ve done so had they been aware of Polanco’s situation.
With Vargas back with the Twins he’ll now have a chance to fill out a spot on the 25-man roster.
With the Vargas claim, the Twins' bench will probably be:
C – Garver
IF – Adrianza
OF – Grossman
BAT – VargasShould put to bed some worries about Rosario's triceps, too.
