The Minnesota Twins announced on Tuesday that their annual Winter Caravan and TwinsFest events will not be taking place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The cancellation of the Twins’ two biggest offseason events is significant as the Winter Caravan, which sends players and coaches to meet fans across the state, has been held annually for the past 60 seasons.
Meanwhile, TwinsFest was founded in 1989 and is the largest annual fundraiser for the Minnesota Twins Community Fund.
“An offseason without our longstanding and beloved fan events is certainly tough to digest, but our top priority is, and always will be, the health and safety of Twins Territory,” Twins President and CEO Dave St. Peter said in a statement.
In place of the events, the Twins are planning “specifically designed virtual experiences with details to be announced at a later date.
“As we’ve all done so much in these unprecedented times, we will adapt,” St. Peter said. “We’re excited to roll out some unique, fun ways for Twins fans to safely engage with the back-to-back American League Central champions this winter and we’re already looking forward to the 2022 return of Winter Caravan and TwinsFest.”
