Byron Buxton will remain out indefinitely with a hairline fracture to the big toe on his left foot.
The Twins say Buxton suffered the fracture when he fouled a ball off of his foot during a rehab game in Florida last Sunday.
Buxton was rehabbing his way back to the lineup after being placed on the 10-day disabled list April 18 because of migraine headaches.
Manager Paul Molitor had said the plan was to get Buxton back in the lineup next week, but that’s unlikely to happen now because of his toe.
“If it’s a significant fracture, you’re talking four to six weeks, but I don’t think that’s the case here,” Twins manager Paul Molitor said Saturday. “We’re hopeful somehow it becomes tolerable in a more reasonable timeframe. The next five days probably should give us an indication of progress.”
