The Minnesota Twins received some bad news on Saturday night as rookie outfielder Brent Rooker fractured his forearm and will miss the remainder of the season.
Rooker was injured in the fourth inning of the Twins’ 8-4 win over the Indians when he was hit by a pitch by Indians starter Zach Plesac and was pinch-ran for by Jake Cave.
The 25-year-old outfielder was off to a strong start in his rookie season, hitting .316 with one home run and five RBI in 19 at-bats. With a display of power, Rooker began to show why he was ranked as one of the top prospects in the Twins’ organization.
While the injury is disappointing it does come at a good time for the Twins. Max Kepler (shoulder) is expected to return from the injured list on Sunday and the Twins do have another top prospect in Alex Kiriloff waiting in the wings should they need him later in the season.
With the Twins sitting a game behind the Chicago White Sox for first place in the American League Central, Kepler’s return will be important for the final push toward the postseason.
