By the time the Twins and White Sox had finished playing Thursday in Chicago, all the paint had dried and all of the socks were folded – metaphorically speaking, of course.
It really was that boring.
Aside from Logan Morrison’s 440-foot home run to leadoff the seventh inning, the game was four hours and 51 minutes of frustration. Neither team could hit and neither bullpen could throw strikes.
Leading 1-0 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, Twins closer Fernando Rodney walked a batter, hit a batter and then walked in the game-tying run on four pitches to Daniel Palka, a guy who couldn’t make it with the Twins last season.
The 10th inning was a snoozer, as were the 11th and 12th.
Then, in the 13th, the Twins loaded the bases. You’ll never guess what happened.
Drumroll…..
Max Kepler walked, “driving” in the eventual game-winning run.
Mercifully, someone pitched the 13th inning for the Twins to finish it. I didn’t even check to see who the hero pitcher was, but whoever you are, thank you.
Somehow, the official scorekeeper stayed the entire time and made 429 tally marks, signifying how many pitches 14 different grown men threw towards home plate.
Here’s the only thing worth watching from the game.
