Rookie right-hander Trevor May had a season-high 10 strikeouts as the Twins beat the White Sox 6-4 Sunday afternoon in Chicago, and avoided a series sweep.
May (3-4) allowed three earned runs on five hits with no walks to win his third straight start, according to MLB.com.
The Twins took a 2-0 lead in the second inning as Trevor Plouffe hit his second homer in as many days and Eduardo Escobar hit a sacrifice fly to score Oswaldo Arcia. They made it 4-0 in the fourth when Jordan Schafer hit a two-run homer, his first since joining the Twins in early August, MLB.com notes.
Schafer went 2-for-4, and scored again on a sacrifice fly by Kurt Suzuki in the ninth.
The White Sox scored twice in the fourth on four straight hits off May. They also got a home run from Jose Abreu, who hit a solo shot in the ninth inning off closer Glen Perkins, who got his 34th save, according to the Associated Press.
The Twins salvaged the win after losing two doubleheaders in the past four days. They open a nine-game home stand at Target Field Monday evening against the Detroit Tigers.
