Samuel Deduno fired seven innings of two-run ball to lead the Twins over Indians, 7-2. The win puts the Twins into a tie for last place with Cleveland. Minnesota had been alone in last place since August 14.
Deduno’s allowed just three hits over his seven innings. He walked three and struck out six. Deduno’s record improves to 6-3, tied with Jeff Gray for the second most wins on the team.
Offensively the Twins were led by Joe Mauer, Justin Morneau and Pedro Florimon. Mauer drove in his 76th run of the season and Morneau drove in two runs, giving him 75 on the season. Florimon doubled and tripled and scored two runs.
Ryan Doumit’s 16th home run of the season provided some insurance for the bullpen, which didn’t allow a hit over the final two innings.
Before the game started the Twins scratched Chris Parmelee from the starting lineup with groin soreness.
