It wasn’t a no-hitter but Jered Weaver led the Angels over the Twins, 8-3 Monday night at Target Field. The lanky right-hander allowed one run on three hits in six innings of work. Francisco Liriano was inconsistent, allowing four runs in just five innings.
The Twins went 11 innings without a hit against Weaver, dating back to his no-hitter last Wednesday. Erik Komatsu earned Minnesota’s first hit off of last year’s All-Star game starter. It came in the bottom of the third inning. Oddly enough, Komatsu wasn’t even on the Twins’ roster last week, so he hadn’t faced Weaver yet.
Trailing 5-1 the Twins rallied for two-runs in the seventh inning. Joe Mauer’s RBI single cut the lead to 5-2 and Ryan Doumit’s sacrifice fly made it 5-3.
