Success and cheap ticket prices have resulted in big crowds to watch the Twins play at Target Field, but the downfall of larger crowds has been long lines at the gates to enter the ballpark.
The Twins are aiming to solve that problem by adjusting security policies.
Beginning June 11, fans will be able to hold onto the following items when going through security:
- Cellphones
- Wallets
- Clutches (no bigger than 9X5 inches
- Keys
In addition, only single-compartment bags will be allowed beginning July 5. That means no backpacks, duffle bags or laptop bags.
Bags that will be allowed (no bigger than 16x16x8 inches) include purses, clutches, tote bags, drawstring bags, clear bags, diaper bags, soft-sided coolers and medical items.
The actual size of bags allowed into the stadium has not changed (16"x16"x8"). We are just asking that those bags now be single compartment bags to speed up the screening process!

After crowds between 12,000 and 17,000 showed up in poor weather to watch the Twins host the Houston Astros, an American League power, the Twins created a ticket deal that allowed fans to get into the ballpark for just $5 for all remaining May home games.
The result of the plan, combined with continued winning, were crowds of 20,000+ in the final 12 home games of May, with at least 26,000 fans in 10 games.
The new security guidelines will be in place when the Twins return to Minneapolis for a nine-game home stand June 11-19 against the Mariners, Royals and Red Sox.
The Twins (40-20) lead the AL Central division by 9 1/2 games over the Cleveland Indians (31-30) entering play Thursday, June 6.
