The Minnesota Twins have signed veteran starter J.A. Happ to a one-year deal according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. Terms of the agreement have not been announced, but MLB Network’s Jon Heyman is reporting the deal is worth $8 million.
Happ is a 37-year-old left-hander that has spent the last couple of seasons with the New York Yankees after being traded from Toronto in 2018. The right-hander went 21-10 during his 2 1/2 seasons with New York compiling an ERA of 4.13.
Those stats include a solid 2020 season where Happ made nine starts posting a 2-2 record and a 3.47 ERA.

The Twins will be hoping that Happ can have the same impact on the rotation that Rich Hill was supposed to make a year ago. As a veteran arm to help solidify the back end of the rotation, Happ has made 30 starts in five of the past six seasons and is a former All-Star (2018), and finished sixth in Cy Young voting in 2016.
With Happ’s signing, he’ll join a rotation that currently features Jose Berrios, Kenta Maeda, and Michael Pineda as locked-in starters for 2021.
