It’s been an active Major League trade deadline for the Minnesota Twins.
The Twins acquired lefty Hector Santiago from the Los Angeles Angels in a deal that sends Ricky Nolasco and Alex Meyer to the Angels, according to reports.
Santiago, 28, is 10-4 with a 4.25 earned-run average in 22 starts with the Angels this season. He was 9-9 last season with a 3.59 ERA in 32 starts last season.
He will enter his final year of arbitration eligibility after this season. He’s eligible to become a free agent following 2017.
The problem for Santiago has been his command. NBC Sports notes he has 57 walks this year – the highest total in the American League. However, he has been reliable over the last three seasons while playing for the White Sox and Angels.

Nolasco, 33, has continued to be inconsistent for the Twins. So far this year, he has a 5.13 ERA in 124.2 innings.
While Meyer, 26, hasn’t developed like the Twins had hoped he would. The once top prospect has appeared in just four major league games, giving up 10 runs in just 6.1 innings.

The lanky right-hander has also struggled with his command in the Twins minor leagues. NBC Sports says he’s been battling a nagging shoulder injury most of the season.
It’s the second deal of the day for the Twins, who also sent reliever Fernando Abad to Boston for Red Sox pitching prospect Pat Light.

Following the trades Monday afternoon interim Twins GM Rob Antony told reporters he was happy with what they were able to get done.
“We accomplished some of the things we wanted to,” Antony said Monday. “There were other things that we would have liked to have done, but we weren’t going to make a deal just to make a deal.”
