The Twins have added another pitcher to their beleaguered bull pen. They acquired Neal Cotts from the Milwaukee Brewers Friday night, in a trade that will give Milwaukee a player to be named or cash, according to ESPN.
Cotts, a leftie, is a veteran who’s been in the majors since 2003. He signed a one-year contract with the Brewers in January. Before then he pitched for the Rangers, White Sox and Cubs.
Cotts missed part of the 2009 season when he had Tommy John surgery. He also sat out 2010 and 2011 because of other injuries, and spent 2013 in the minors with Texas, ESPN notes.
But, as the Star Tribune notes, he’s had some post-season experience – he won a World Series with the White Sox in 2005 – which could help the Twins as they make a stretch run for the playoffs.
Cotts also sounded pleased with the move to a team that’s in the playoff hunt, according to the

According to the Star Tribune, the 35-year-old Cotts is stronger against left-handed batters than right-handers, and he is expected to help out a bullpen that has seen inconsistent performance of late from its lefties.

The Twins will cover the rest of Cotts’ $3 million contract, which totals $704,919.
