Four losses in five games coupled with what are becoming nightly extra-inning wins by the Angels has the Twins looking up at the Wild Card leaders for the first time in a long time.
It’s been the Yankees and Twins in control of the Wild Card seeds the last few weeks, but the Angels went a half-game ahead of the Twins on Tuesday night. Now, with 24 games to go, and 15 of them on the road, the Twins are sitting in a very uncomfortable position, looking up at the Angels while the Orioles, Rangers, Mariners, Rays and Royals are close behind.
“We don’t have any pressure because we don’t have nothing to lose,” Twins ace Ervin Santana said Wednesday on the One Hunnit Podcast. “We’re not supposed to be where we are right now. We don’t have any pressure, we just have to play baseball, keep having fun the way we are, and try not to do too much.”
Low pressure, high confidence.
“Very high, very high because they don’t expect us to be in the playoffs, they don’t expect us to do good,” Santana said when asked how confident the Twins are. “We got a chance, a chance that’s in front of us. We just have to keep playing and don’t worry about what other teams are doing.”
Santana confirms players-only meeting after trade deadline
“We did that in San Diego, the very next day,” Santana said. “Everybody agreed – we just talk about ourselves, trust ourselves and pick each other up. No matter what the situation is, just try to have fun. Like I said before, we don’t have nothing to lose. Just go out there and play baseball.”
