The hockey communities in both Minnesota and Colorado are leading tributes to Owatonna High School boy’s coach Dave Fromm, who died on Saturday.
News of Fromm’s death has spread across social media, with his former team in Colorado among those paying tribute. A cause of death has not been announced.
Fromm, 54, was named head coach of Owatonna Huskies boys’ hockey in July 2021, having spent almost ten years serving as the head coach for the Colorado Thunderbirds AAA program.
The Minnesota-raised coach, who was a standout goaltender for Minneapolis Roosevelt in high school and graduated from MSU-Mankato, also coached Minneapolis South between 1996 and 2000, and was the Team USA inline hockey coach from 1997 to 1999.
“It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Dave Fromm, a beloved coach, a devoted husband, and cherished father,” the Colorado Thunderbirds posted on social media
“Dave poured his heart and soul into mentoring countless young athletes, but his impact extended far beyond the game itself.”
Fromm is survived by his wife and their two daughters. His death has led to an outpouring of tributes on social media.
