A tree planted in honor of Korey Stringer after he died during Vikings training camp in Mankato in 2001 has been moved because of the demolition of Gage Residence Hall, KEYC-TV reports.
Stringer died Aug. 1, 2001, a day after he suffered a heat stroke. The tree was planted shortly afterwards near Gage, which housed the Vikings during training camp for decades.
But with the demolition of the Gage towers in late June, the tree was replanted outside Highland Center on the Minnesota State University-Mankato campus.
At the base of the tree is a commemorative plaque in Stringer’s honor.
