Arguably the best player in Minnesota’s boys basketball Class of 2022, Tre Holloman announced Sunday that he’s headed to Michigan State University on a basketball scholarship.
Holloman will play for Spartans legendary coach Tom Izzo rather than suit up for first-year head coach Ben Johnson at the University of Minnesota.
Holloman is the No. 1 recruit in Minnesota’s Class of 2022, according to 247Sports. The recruiting service ranks the 6-foot-2 guard as a four-star player and the 67th-best recruit in the national Class of 2022.
In late June Holloman narrowed his list of colleges to six: Michigan State, Minnesota, Oklahoma State, Marquette, Dayton and Illinois.
Holloman is also a three-star recruit in football and has offers from Michigan State, Minnesota, Iowa, Iowa State and Nebraska, among others. It’s unclear if he’ll attempt to be a two-sport athlete in East Lansing.
The No. 2 recruit in Minnesota’s Class of 2022, per 247Sports, is Eli King of Caledonia, who has committed to Iowa State. King is also a four-star player who ranks 88th nationally.
The No. 3 recruit, Minnehaha Academy’s Prince Aligbe, has yet to announcement his commitment. He too is a four-star recruit who ranks 100th nationally. Coming in at No. 101 nationally, Wayzata’s Camden Heide has already committed to Purdue.
