Taking his team to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament by defeating Florida tonight would give Gophers basketball coach Tubby Smith an extra year on his contract, according to the Pioneer Press.
Smith won a $150,000 bonus for a victory against UCLA Friday. He would receive $200,000 plus the one year added to his contract for winning in the third against Florida.
Those bonuses, along with the opportunities to earn an extra year, were among the terms of the July contract extension Smith signed, effective through the 2016-17 season.
Tipoff for today’s game in Austin, Texas is at 5:10.
