After a short start for Vance Worley the Twins responded from a 5-0 early deficit to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-5, scoring all six runs in the final three innings, Friday in Spring Training.
Worley was knocked from the game in the second inning. He had given up seven hits and five runs, all earned, while recording just four outs for the Twins.
Afterwards, Worley told the Star Tribune he thinks the wind affected his pitches.
The rest of the Twins staff didn’t have the same problem, they gave up a combined seven hits to the Pirates the rest of the way, and kept them off the scoreboard.
That allowed Minnesota to rally from back. Chris Colabello led the charge. He was 3-3 with a pair of doubles an RBI and two runs scored after replacing Joe Mauer at first base.
Minnesota rallied for three runs in the seventh to cut the Pirate lead to two. In the eighth they evened the score at five with two more runs. Then took the lead in the ninth.
Aaron Thompson picked up the win on the mound for the Twins. He pitched around two walks and a hit in his inning of work to keep the Pirates off the board.
