Former Minnesota Twins center fielder Torii Hunter has always been one to make the spectacular play.
Sometimes, that means his body will take a beating. Last night in the Tigers’ ALCS Game 2 loss to Boston, it did once again, as Hunter went up and over the short wall in right field at Fenway Park to try and take a grand slam away from former Twin David Ortiz.
Hunter suffered bruises on his hip and a cut to his head while going into the bullpen to try and save Detroit’s 5-1 lead, but re-iterated his dedication to his craft postgame.
“This is the postseason, I’d die on the field for this,” Hunter said after the game to reporters. “You’re not going to take me off this field.”
Before the game Sunday, Hunter said that playing behind the Tigers’ pitching staff is “boring” because hitters can’t even put the ball in play off the power starters arms.
He must’ve jinxed it.
Hunter says he’s hurting, but tweeted Monday afternoon that he’ll be ready for Game 3 tomorrow.
