Sunday’s Vikings-Bears game in Chicago has lured in the No. 1 broadcast crew from CBS, with Jim Nance, Tony Romo and Tracy Wolfson set to cover the NFC North battle.
But Romo isn’t a sure thing. In fact, he might actually be closer to doubtful the way he’s striking a golf ball.
Romo shot a 2-under par 70 in the opening round of the Safeway Open on Thursday. He’s only five shots off the lead of the PGA Tour event, and the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback had a better opening round than a bunch of pros, including Phil Mickelson, who shot a 75.
If Romo plays well again on Friday and makes the cut, he’ll spend the weekend golfing rather than providing insight and analysis of the Vikings game.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Romo’s replacement, if he does beat the odds and make the cut, will be Boomer Esiason.
So far so good for Romo, who was tagged with an over/under opening round score of 78.5 by Vegas oddsmakers. He crushed those odds, and could very well do it again Friday. That’s great news for Romo, and bad news for Vikings and Bears fans.
