In all of sports, there is nothing quite like a Game 7: This is it, win or lose, all or nothing, everything comes down to just one game.
It’s been awhile since Minnesota sports fans have had a playoff Game 7 to watch, so many of them are psyched for tonight’s matchup between the Minnesota Wild and Colorado Avalanche.
Monday night’s 5-2 Wild victory sent the two teams into the high-stakes seventh game. Zach Parise had a pair of goals and two assists to help lead the Wild to the win.
If this seems familiar, it is. The Wild and Avalanche have met in the playoffs twice before. Each team has won one playoff series.
Throughout the 2014 Western Conference Quarterfinals we have a number of similarities to the 2003 playoff series, in which the Wild beat the Avalanche in seven games. 2003 Game 6 hero Richard Park opened this year’s playoffs at the Xcel Energy Center by yelling “Let’s Play Hockey,” prior to Game 3.
With tonight’s game looming, this is a good time to time to turn back the clock to April 22, 2003, and reminisce about the night the Wild ended the Colorado Avalanche’s season and ended (now Avalanche head coach) Patrick Roy’s career as an NHL goaltender.
