The Twins beat the Tampa Bay Rays 6-4 in 12 innings on Wednesday night.
Tonight’s game had a very special moment for one Twins player and his mom.
Chris Colabello has been one of the best stories in baseball so far in 2014. Not only has he been the most consistent Twins hitter, his 26 RBIs have tied a Twins record for RBIs in the month of April held by Kirby Puckett.
The 30-year-old Twins rookie may have added to the fairy-tale start to the season on Wednesday night.
The story goes a little something like this.
Colabello was in the lineup as the designated hitter and came to the plate for his second at bat. His mom in the stands watching, on her birthday, as she was being interviewed by Fox Sports Net’s Marney Gellner when she made a call for a special birthday present.
And like a good son, Colabello delivered.
He wasn’t done though. Colabello also had the two-run single in the 12th inning to break open the 4-4 tie and give the Twins the lead.
