Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio is out ‘indefinitely’ after suffering a severe sprain of his left ankle. The team’s talisman left the arena in crutches after limping out of the 103-112 defeat against the Orlando Magic Friday night.
The Timberwolves announced Saturday that an MRI scan of Rubio’s ankle confirmed it was a “significant sprain,” and as a result he would be ruled out indefinitely, FOX9 reports. It is a major blow to the Timberwolves and their team leader, who was celebrating last week after agreeing to a $55 million, four-year contract extension.

The injury to Rubio, who is averaging 9.4 points and 10 assists this season, will mean an opportunity for veteran Mo Williams, who filled in after Rubio left the game last night.
“We’re gonna have to change how we play now,” head coach Flip Saunders told the Bleacher Report. “Ricky initiated the offense. Our offense was starting to really click and also defensively. We’re going to have to change on the fly how we play.”
