Jonas Valanciunas scored 19 points and added 11 rebounds as the Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 120-108 on Friday night.
The Timberwolves were led by their usual stars as Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards had big nights.
Towns led the Wolves with a game-high 30 points and 16 rebounds as Minnesota went bucket-for-bucket with the Grizzlies throughout the first half. With Edwards adding 22 points and six assists, the Wolves went into the locker room down 68-66 at halftime.
But Towns and Edwards couldn’t find anyone else to step up, Naz Reid (18 points) was the only Minnesota player to score in double figures as the Grizzlies raised their defensive effort in the second half.
With Minnesota held to 42 points in the second half, the Grizzlies pulled away on the strength of seven players scoring in double figures. This included four players off the Memphis bench including De’Anthony Melton, who had 14 points to help the Grizzlies pull away for the victory.
The Timberwolves fell to 12-36 with the loss and will travel to face the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday night.
