For the first time in months the Minnesota Timberwolves have provided a formal injury update about Karl-Anthony Towns. The star big man hasn’t played since suffering a severe calf injury on Nov. 28. The official update from the team is vague but does indicate that he could return before the end of the regular season.
“Towns is continuing to progress in his rehabilitation program and has been participating in basketball activities. He is expected to return in the coming weeks and further updates to his playing status will be provided when available.”
That’s it. No further details, but it’s a promising sign that Towns could play before Minnesota enters the playoffs. Of course, Towns will need to ramp up his conditioning and there’s a good chance he’s on a minutes restriction upon his return.
The issue with the latest update from the team is that “coming weeks” doesn’t tell anyone much. It’s obviously not going to be this week. What about next week? The week after? The final week of the regular season?
