Minnesota Timberwolves forward Dante Cunningham has been arrested by Medina police for the second time in less than a week, the Star Tribune reports.
He was being held without bail at the Hennepin County jail.
Cunningham, 26, was arrested shortly after noon Sunday on suspicion of making terroristic threats, according to the Hennepin County Jail’s roster, WCCO reports. The Medina police department is expected to release details of the arrest on Monday morning.
One definition of “terroristic threats” in Minnesota law is threatening “directly or indirectly, to commit any crime of violence with purpose to terrorize another.”
Cunningham was arrested last Thursday and charged on Friday with felony domestic assault. In that case, he is accused of trying to strangle a woman who said she is his girlfriend at his home in Medina, a suburb west of Minneapolis.
Cunningham posted $40,000 bail on Friday night, and joined the Timberwolves for their game in Orlando on Saturday. The Star Tribune reports he started in place of Kevin Love, who is injured.
The NBA and its teams typically do not discipline or suspend players who are charged with a crime until the legal process is completed, according to the newspaper.
After Cunningham’s Sunday arrest, the Timberwolves issued a statement.
“The situation with Dante Cunningham is very fluid and we continue to monitor all available information. We reiterate that the Minnesota Timberwolves do not condone the behavior described in the accusations. We continue to wait for the legal process to run its course and will have further comment when appropriate.”
Cunningham is scheduled to be in court Monday in connection with the domestic assault charge.
