The Timberwolves’ losing streak versus the Clippers was extended to a 13th game as they fell 107-99 Sunday afternoon at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
The Clippers had defeated Minnesota 12 times in a row leading up to the game, including six straight at home. Sunday’s game ended up the same, as the Timberwolves’ defense couldn’t stop Blake Griffin, Chris Paul and J.J. Redick.
1. Played from behind
The Wolves were playing from behind most of the game, down by as many as 16 points in the second quarter and behind by double digits at halftime, 48-37, according to the Star Tribune.
Griffin scored 26 points and had eight rebounds, while Paul had 20 points and Redick had 18.
2. Late rally falls short
The Timberwolves battled back to close within five points with four minutes left in the game. But the Clippers answered back with an 8-0 run to bring the lead back to 13 points and Minnesota couldn’t overcome that deficit. Andrew Wiggins led the Timberwolves with 21 points.
Ricky Rubio sat out his second straight game due to soreness in the ankle that was surgically repaired last season. Reserve forward Nemanja Bjelica was back after missing four games with a bad knee. He scored 10 points.
3. Winning streak ends
Minnesota had a three-game winning streak going into Los Angeles, and had a .500 record. But with the loss, the Wolves are 8-9 so far on the season.
