Detroit Tigers 9
Minnesota Twins 2
The Detroit Tigers were swinging the bats early and beat up the Minnesota Twins 9-2 Friday night at Target Field.
1. Tigers play long ball
The Tigers were knocking the ball around the yard Friday night, hitting three home runs in the game. Miguel Cabrera, Victor Martinez and Nick Castellanos all homered in the game.
2. Big night for V-Mart
Martinez put together a big night for Detroit. He finished the night 4-for-5 with his 5th home run, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Victor Martinez now has 16 4-hit games in his career. His last 4-hit game before tonight was on July 6, 2015 at Seattle.

3. Hughes roughed up early
It wasn’t a great start for Twins pitcher Phil Hughes (1-4). He was roughed up early, giving up three runs in the first inning and four runs over his five innings of work.
Things didn’t start in typical fashion for Hughes when he walked the lead off hitter on five pitches.
He finished the night allowing the four runs on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Tweet of the Night:
Is this the Joe Mauer of old?
Joe Mauer singles in the first and has now reached base in all 23 games this season. The only player in the Majors to do that.
