The Tigers avoided being swept by the Twins with a 4-1 victory at Target Field Wednesday afternoon.
Minnesota never got the bats going against right-hander Michael Fulmer and the Detroit bullpen, which combined to hold the Twins to just five hits, three of them by Eddie Rosario.
Ex-Twins infielder Niko Goodrum led the Tigers with a 2-for-3 day at the plate including a two-run homer off of Kyle Gibson in the fourth inning. He also doubled off the wall in left, narrowly missing a homer from both sides of the plate.
Goodrum hit .265 in 127 games at Triple-A Rochester in the Twins’ minor league system last season. This is his first season in Detroit.
Minnesota is off to Seattle to start a three-game series agains the Mariners on Friday at 9:10 p.m.

The opening game of the series has a dandy of a pitching matchup with James Paxton on the hill for the Mariners against Twins rookie right-hander Fernando Romero.
Paxton has 45 strikeouts in his last 37 innings pitched, including a no-hitter against the Blue Jays and a 16-strikeout game against the Athletics.
