Kyle Gibson’s rookie season has been filled with ups and downs, and Sunday was another down for the right-hander as the Twins lost to the Mariners, 6-4 in Seattle.
Chris Colabello hit a two-run homer to give the Twins a 2-0 lead in the second inning, but Gibson couldn’t hold the lead for long.
Gibson gave up one run in the bottom of the second and four more in the fourth — highlighted by home runs by solo homer from Michael Saunders and a three-run shot from Nick Franklin.
The Twins cut the lead to 5-4 on an RBI single from Clete Thomas and a sacrifice fly by Aaron Hicks, but that’s as close as they would come.
Franklin’s second homer of the game — a solo shot in the seventh — put the final tally on the board for in favor of the Mariners.
Franklin finished 3-4 with 2 homers and 4 RBI.
Gibson fell to 2-3 with the loss. He allowed five runs on seven hits over five innings.
Minnesota went 4-3 on the seven-game road trip.
The Twins have Monday off before starting a six-game homestand against Kansas City on Tuesday.
Note: Brian Dozier left midway through the game with a stiff back. He is listed as day-to-day.
