It was 11 years ago this week that the greatest Minnesota Twins player in franchise history died. Kirby Puckett passed away on March 6, 2006 at the age of 45.
Puckett’s life, like his career, was cut far too short. He won two World Series championship with the Twins in 1987 and 1991. It’s almost hard to believe that his career lasted just 12 short years, especially when you consider how much he accomplished.
Puckett was forced to retire in 1996 at the age of 35 after he was diagnosed with glaucoma.
Puckett had more than 2,300 career hits and was a lifetime .318 hitter. He blasted 207 home runs, was a 10 time All-Star, a batting champion and won six gold gloves.
Even though Puckett hasn’t played for the Twins in 20 years, his legacy continues to live on with the organization.
