The Minnesota Vikings will take on the Cleveland Browns tomorrow in their final home opener to ever be played at Mall of America Field a.k.a. the Metrodome in Minneapolis.
Construction on the Vikings new stadium is scheduled to begin in November.
The Pioneer Press writes that over the years, the noise advantage of the Metrodome has helped the Vikings to a 158-87 record since the dome opened in 1982, the sixth best home record in the NFL over that time.
It could be even louder inside the dome Sunday for Cleveland quarterback Brian Hoyer and the Browns offense as the NFL has allowed for a more liberal policy on stadium noise. The NFL is allowing stadiums to play the music until there is 20-seconds remaining on the play clock, or 10 seconds longer than in previous years.
Last year, the Vikings home field advantage allowed them to post a 7-1 record in the dome. They will have to win them all to equal that win total at the dome this season, as the Vikings lose a home game to London next week.
