Do you feel the North Stars’ retired numbers and logos should belong to the State of Hockey? Well you’re not alone because there is a petition floating around the internet with over 2,000 signatures to do just that.
Joel Potter of Greenfield, Wisconsin started the motion on change.org and he hopes to get to 2,500 before turning it over to the Wild.
Potter claims that other cities and states have been able to keep the history of their team name, records, retired jerseys and so should Minnesota.
Currently Dallas has four numbers retired: Bill Goldsworthy, Bill Masterson, Neal Broten and Mike Modano.
Modano started his career in Minnesota but he wound up playing over 1,000 games in Dallas.
Broten also played for Dallas but he skated in just 116 games with the Stars. Goldsworthy and Masterson’s jerseys were retired well before the North Stars relocated in 1993.
Last year at the Stadium Series at TCF Bank Stadium, former Wild and North Stars players teamed up to play the Chicago Blackhawks in the alumni game.
So it wouldn’t be the first time that North Stars players were honored by the Wild.
Potter also mentions the petition is not to change the name of the Wild to the North Stars. He simply wants the retired numbers and logo to reside in Minnesota at the Xcel Energy Center.
