Tonight the Minnesota Timberwolves begin Summer League play in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Summer League is 10 days long and is a chance for rookies and other younger players to showcase their skills.
For Wolves fans, it’s your first chance to see first-round pick Kris Dunn in a Wolves uniform. You won’t see Karl-Anthony Towns, Andrew Wiggins or Ricky Rubio but you will see a lot of Tyus Jones and Adreian Payne.
It’s an important stretch for Jones and Payne to establish an identity heading into regular season. Both Jones and Payne are former first round picks but appeared in just 37 and 52 games, respectively, in the 82-game regular season last season.
Assistant coach Ryan Saunders will coach the team. Here’s the rest of the Wolves roster they announced this week.
Most of these players may not even be with Timberwolves roster or D-League roster moving forward but it’s a chance for them to show off their abilities to teams around the league.
The Wolves will play three preliminary games this weekend with a tournament that runs July 13-18. Tonight’s game with the Denver Nuggets will be televised on ESPN with tip-off at 7 p.m.
