Although they were eliminated in the first round of the postseason last year, bookies were still optimistic that the Wild could make a Stanley Cup run this season.
But after a rocky start – just four wins in 10 games – Minnesota’s Cup odds have nearly dropped in half.
Minnesota opened the season with 16/1 odds, but those odds have fallen to 28/1, which is the same odds as the Las Vegas Golden Knights who are in their first season in the NHL.
Las Vegas has been the talk of the league as it owns the best record in the Western Conference at 9-2-1. Sin City opened the season with 66/1 odds.
The Arizona Coyotes are the only team in the Western Conference that have seen a deeper drop off in their odds to win it all other than Minnesota.
Adding more insult to injury to the State of Hockey, the St. Louis Blues – who are coached by former Wild bench boss Mike Yeo – currently have the best odds in the Western Conference to win the Cup at 12/1.
