With the St. Louis Blues defeating the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday, an epic showdown between the Wild and Mike Yeo’s Blues will take place in the first-round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Yeo who coached the Wild for five years, took over as head coach for St. Louis in February. Since being named head coach, the Blues have been one of the best teams in the league.
The Wild posted a 2-2-1 record against the Blues this season. Minnesota also beat St. Louis in the playoffs in 2015. Although it was two-years ago, the Blues mostly have the same core together.
Vladimir Tarasenko who has owned the Wild in his career, leads the team in goals and points. Jake Allen is still their netminder but has been a completely different goaltender since Yeo took over.
He was a rookie when the teams met in the playoffs and struggled mightily.
After a swoon in the month of March, the Wild have picked things back up, having won three-straight games coming into play on Saturday. Minnesota is seeded second in the Western Conference.
The schedule for the upcoming series will be announced on Sunday.
