The season is all but over for the Minnesota Vikings. Had the Vikings beaten the Colts Sunday we’d be focused on the playoff race and looking ahead to a big Christmas-eve matchup with the Green Bay Packers.
Instead, Vikings fans are looking to what is sure to be an interesting offseason. We will be taking a look at some of the key issues facing the Vikings this week – we start with a big question about the team’s biggest star.
What is Adrian Peterson’s future?
Adrian Peterson has one year left on a contract that he signed after 2013. The deal would pay him $18 million next season, but isn’t guaranteed.
Peterson has run for just 72 yards on 37 carries in three games this year after suffering that knee injury. And while no one ever wants to bet against the man they call “All Day,” at age 32 it’s fair to wonder how much he has left in the tank.
And if any running back is worth $18 million in today’s game.
Unless Peterson is willing to restructure his contract, he could be on his way out of Minnesota. AD is owed a roster bonus on the third day of the new season – meaning if the Vikings are moving on, we’ll know early.
If not Peterson, then who?
If Peterson is gone, do the Vikings focus on Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata (who is also a free agent), or will they look to bring someone else in?
