Newlyweds Christian and Samantha Ponder, formerly Steele, are planning a second wedding in April, this time in front of family and friends in Phoenix.
After a whirlwind romance and brief engagement, the two quietly married in a Hudson, Wis. courthouse last December.
In an interview with Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina Tuesday, the couple talked about the details of the proposal.
On a cold Minnesota night, Christian used Christmas lights on his back porch to pop the question–although, there wasn’t actually a question mark included in the phrase.
“I still don’t know that I technically accepted a proposal because I don’t remember a question ever,” Samantha said. “We just somehow ended up in Hudson, Wisconsin in front of a judge.”
Samantha dispelled rumors that she was pregnant and admitted their marriage was quick.
“We’re both strange people. And yes, this is not necessarily normal. But it was right for us,” she said.
Christian, who only stayed on the line for a few minutes before being pulled into a meeting, said his arm is doing much better.
