Head coach P.J. Fleck got some good news Wednesday with a verbal commitment from a quarterback in Texas.
Jacob Clark, a 6-foot-5, 210-pound quarterback from Rockwall High School, announced his plans to join the Gophers after he graduates in 2019.

According to 247 Sports, the California Golden Bears were among the favorites to land Clark. California is the same school that produced Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, and more recently, Rams quarterback Jared Goff.
247 Sports rates Clark as a three-star QB and the 24th best pro-style quarterback in the country in the Class of 2019.
Clark, who played his junior season at Rockwall after moving to Texas from Kansas, picked the Gophers over the likes of Cal, Iowa, Purdue, TCU, Vanderbilt and Washington State.
Clark, of Rockwell, Texas, is the 24th-rated pro-style quarterback in the 2019 class, according to 247sports.com. He had offers from Iowa, Purdue and California, among others.

“I’m a perfectionist when it comes to football and a lot of other things,” Clark told the Rockwall Herald Banner last September, noting that his football role model is former Colt and Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning.
Clark joins Eden Prairie’s Cole Kramer as quarterbacks in Minnesota’s 2019 recruiting class.
Minnesota’s current QB situation includes a competition between redshirt freshman Tanner Morgan and true freshman Zack Annexstad.
