The Timberwolves announced Friday that franchise player Karl-Anthony Towns will remain out indefinitely with a fractured left wrist.
Towns was likely injured in Minnesota’s Jan. 25 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Head coach Ryan Saunders said Towns tried to play through the injury, actually playing in the next six games, before missing the Feb. 12 against the Hornets.
The nine-day All-Star break leads into the final 29 games of the season beginning Friday against the Boston Celtics.
The Wolves will re-evaluate Towns’ wrist in two weeks, meaning he’ll miss at least eight more games between now and the Mar. 6 game against the Chicago Bulls.
Here’s the statement from the team:
“After sustaining a left wrist injury, Towns received a period of treatment and monitoring from the Wolves medical staff. Continued evaluation of the injury confirmed a wrist fracture. While Towns has been diligent in treatment with a goal of return to play, he has been assessed by multiple specialists over the last several days and the team continues to gather information on the optimal management strategies.”
Ryan Saunders said it is believed Towns was injured 1/25 against OKC. He had x-rays after that, which came back negative. He played through pain and further testing this week revealed the fracture
