One play involving both players probably has a lot to do with why Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater and wide receiver Stefon Diggs are up for weekly awards from the NFL this week.
The Vikings beat the Bears 23-20 Sunday for their first victory in Chicago since 2007.
With the Vikings trailing, late in the fourth quarter Bridgewater found Diggs on a 15-yard curl route that Diggs promptly spun into a 40-yard game-tying touchdown.
For Bridgewater it turned around what had been a miserable day to that point – one that saw him go from just 81 yards passing on 23 attempts to hitting on 6-of-7 for 106 yards and a touchdown to finish the game – posting a perfect 158.3 quarterback rating over the game’s final four minutes.
Moments after Diggs’ touchdown Bridgewater connected with Charles Johnson on a 35-yard pass play setting up Blair Walsh’s game-winning 36-yard field goal.
Bridgewater’s late game heroics earned him a nomination for the Castrol Edge Clutch Performer in Week 8.
He has some tough competition for the award though, including New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees, Cincinnati quarterback Andy Dalton, Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson and Carolina linebacker Luke Kuechly.

Diggs also is up for an award too. He was once again nominated for the Pepsi Offensive Rookie of the Week award.
Diggs, who claimed the Week 6 award, finished Sunday’s game with six catches for 95 yards including that game-tying touchdown.
Between Diggs and linebacker Eric Kendricks, the Vikings have had at least one player nominated for the rookie of the week in three of the last four weeks.
