Vikings fans and players found themselves in shock on Wednesday learning that former Vikings defensive end Jared Allen has found a new home in rival Chicago.
After very public visits last week with Dallas and Seattle, the former Viking met with Chicago without so much as a whisper.
Allen, who last week nearly signed with Seattle, signed a four-year contract with the Chicago Bears, Wednesday. The Bears added Allen to replace Julius Peppers who left Chicago and moved north to Green Bay.
Just woke up to LITERALLY 46 missed calls from Jared Allen. He said 10 for heads up on his deal and 36 to see if I died. Ahh he loves me

Chicago has been shaking up their defense after the Bears gave up a franchise worst 478 points last season, according to ESPN.
Following the disappointing season for Chicago Peppers, Henry Melton and Major Wright are on their way out. In addition to Allen, the Bears have also signed defensive ends Lamarr Houston and Willie Young.
The Chicago Tribune reports Bears coach Mark Trestman believes Allen can be a difference-maker who tenacity, skill and character will help a defense in transition.
The Chicago Sun Times reports Allen’s contract is for 4-years and $32 million. The newspaper writes with he and Houston the Bears defense should be significantly better in 2014.
Reaction to the 180 degree change from Allen is all over Twitter. His new teammates seem to be excited to have him.

Allen’s now former teammates seem to be taking his signing with one of their rivals in stride.
Greenway on Jared to Bears “I’m happy for him I think it’s great he’s found a home He clearly deserves to finish his career on his own terms

Even one outspoke former Viking thought the signing was a great move by Chicago.
As a Viking, I try not to talk good about the #Bears, but Chicago made a great acquisition in Jared Allen- best free agent pass rusher. #NFL

KFAN posted Allen’s statement on Wednesday regarding his signing with the Bears.
I’d like to take a moment to thank my former teammates, coaches and the staff at the Minnesota Vikings for all of their inspiring work and dedication. Perhaps more importantly I would like to thank the fans and the Minnesota community. I can only hope that I have left with you all with even a fraction of the positive support and impact you have had on my life, my foundation and my family. I am very excited about this next chapter in my career with the Chicago Bears and can’t wait to see what the future holds for us. God bless.
