In connection with Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game, Target will add a pop-up store to be located beyond the pop-fly zone at the field that bears its name.
The Business Journal reported that visitors and baseball fans will be able to browse Target’s selection of MLB jerseys, T-shirts, hats and other merchandise and souvenirs at a temporary 4,800-square-foot temporary store. According to a map of the Sponsor Zone submitted to the city (see below), the event-based pop-up will be a short walk from Target Field, locating on the parking lot at First Avenue and Sixth Street behind Gluek’s Restaurant and Bar. Several other tents and booths will also set up in the lot; they will be open Sunday through Tuesday of All-Star week.
The 85th annual All-Star Game will be played on July 15. The Associated Press has reported that the four-day All-Star Game and surrounding events will give the city a $75 million economic boost and draw some 160,000 visitors, according to projections from the Minneapolis Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. Leah Wong, vice president of events and marketing for the Downtown Council, said that another 100 million are expected to watch or listen to events. Target Field can accommodate 39,504 people.
A three-day All-Star Game block party in the Warehouse District (Juluy13-15) hosted by Major League Baseball and the Minnesota Twins will feature music, food trucks and sponsor’s promotional tents. Also planned for fans, visitors and local residents who want to get in on the festivities: the T-Mobile Fanfest at the Minneapolis Convention Center on July 11–15 and the Taco Bell All-Star Sunday double-header at Target Field on July 13.
The Journal has reported that hundreds of Minneapolis and Metro Transit police officers will patrol downtown on foot, bike and horse during the festivities.
