The Minnesota Twins announced on Friday that Target Field will be hosting a football game in 2017.
We wont know until Monday who indeed is playing, but the Twins plan to hold a press conference on the field to make a formal announcement.
Multiple reports suggest it could feature college football teams. Sources told the Star Tribune on Friday that St. John’s University and St. Thomas from the MIAC conference will be the matchup.
Both schools have been staples in Division III football over the years and have been in the national spotlight before.
Back in September the Fargo Forum indicated that North Dakota State University could also play a football game at Target Field. However, the article indicates NDSU wouldn’t be able to play in Minneapolis until the 2018 season.
This isn’t the first time Target Field will be configured for something that’s not baseball. Last June the Minnesota United played a soccer game at the Twins’ home.
