Timberwolves forward Taj Gibson donated $20,000 to support a 3-year-old daughter whose mother was killed in a park in Brooklyn, New York, earlier this month.
The mother – 21-year-old Chynna Battle – and another woman were killed on July 12 when two armed men shot into a Brooklyn courtyard, according to the New York Daily News.
“Everything she did revolved around making sure her daughter was good,” said the sister of the victim on the GoFundMe page.
Gibson donated the money to a GoFundMe campaign. The campaign has raised over $24,000 in pursuit of a $30,000 goal.
The NBA veteran was born in Brooklyn where he spent the majority of his youth before moving to California, where he played high school basketball.
He signed a two-year deal, with the Timberwolves in July and reunited with his former head coach Tom Thibodeau, who coached Gibson for five years in Chicago.
