Stephen Gonsalves – the Twins’ top pitching prospect – could be getting a call to the big leagues.
Minnesota has another double header on Monday against the White Sox and the team needs a starter. Although Gonsalves has yet to be called up, ESPN listed him as the starter for Game 1.
Following the Twins win over the Indians on Thursday, manager Paul Moltior told the Pioneer Press Gonsalves is “on the rise” and has him on a short list of potential starting options.
After battling injuries earlier in the season, the left-hander has been stellar on the mound in the minor leagues.
In 17 starts this season, Gonsalves owns an ERA of 2.60 and has struck out 111 batters in 100 innings.
The 23-year-old was just promoted to Triple-A Rochester earlier this month and has allowed just three runs in two starts for the Red Wings.
His next schedule start for Rochester is set for Sunday, if he indeed makes that start, he obviously wouldn’t be able to pitch the next day.
However if the Twins want to stay in the playoff chase, they’re going to need all the pitching they can get.
