The last thing the Vikings need this week is to be shorthanded at wide receiver against a 49ers defense that completely dominated most of the season.
It’s not panic time yet, but it’s noteworthy that wide receiver Stefon Diggs has missed two straight practices because of an illness, although head coach Mike Zimmer indicated Wednesday that Diggs will be fine.
With the Vikings playing on short rest and Saturday’s kickoff scheduled for 3:35 p.m., Diggs still has three days to get healthy.
It’s not clear if Diggs is dealing with flu-like symptoms or something else. If he is dealing with a flu-like illness, the Vikings just better hope that he’s not as sick as Timberwolves guard Andrew Wiggins was recently, as flu-like symptoms kept him out of action for nine days.

A healthy duo of Diggs and Adam Thielen, who was also limited Wednesday with an ankle injury, could be critical, with them capable of exposing a 49ers pass defense that struggled late in the season. After allowing a microscopic 134.3 passing yards per game over the first 12 games, San Francisco surrendered 274 passing yards on average over the final four games.
Thielen was not listed on Tuesday’s injury report, so he must’ve picked up the ankle injury during Tuesday’s session.

Minnesota’s next injury report will be released Thursday, with the final status updates coming 90 minutes before kickoff Saturday.
The rest of the team is pretty healthy, with the exceptions being cornerback Mackensie Alexander (knee) and safety Jayron Kearse (toe, knee) missing practice Wednesday.
Alexander had minor arthroscopic surgery on his knee this week, so he will not play Saturday.
