Stefon Diggs spoke to the media following Wednesday’s OTA session and openly admitted that he was suffering from the effects of a groin pull for the majority of the 2016 season.
The injury, he said, happened during the Vikings-Giants Monday Night Football game on Oct. 3rd, only four weeks into the grueling 17-week schedule.
The third-year wide receiver was asked if he ever got back to 100% after Week 4.
“No. But I mean, that’s stuff we’ll talk about now, I didn’t talk about it then. It didn’t matter to me, I still got to play.”
Diggs said the key to having a successful 2017 season after an injury-plagued 2016 campaign is simple.
“Stay healthy,” he said. “That’s all that matters. I got hurt really early, pulled my groin during the Giants game. Stuff like that is on me. So staying healthy, staying where I need to be, so I can be in tip-top shape come game time.”
Sure, staying healthy sounds nice, but football fans know some injuries aren’t preventable. However, Diggs feels he can control certain elements of his regimen that will lend to a healthier season. Especially when it comes to his groin.
“Yeah, muscles should be preventable if you take care of your body, you know if your break something or something like that, that’s something you can’t prevent. But I should be able to take good control of that other stuff.”
If this highlight video from Wednesday’s OTA practice tweeted by the Vikings is any indication of how the chemistry is brewing for him and quarterback Sam Bradford, it’s going to be all good in 2017.
