The Wild closed out Hockey Day in Minnesota with a dramatic win over Dallas Saturday, but the Stars made sure there would be no repeat performance Tuesday, as they shut out Minnesota 4-0 at the American Airlines Center.
The Wild were a skater short all night, giving Dallas seven power plays, two of which they cashed in on, and goalie Darcy Kuemper sealed Minnesota’s fate by throwing his stick in an attempt to prevent a Dallas goal in the third period when he was caught out of net.
The Stars would be awarded a penalty shot, one Jordie Benn would put home for Dallas’ fourth goal.
The Wild were outshot 36-18 by Dallas, with half of Minnesota’s shots coming in period three when the game had essentially been decided, and the shutout is the second time Minnesota has been blanked in their last four games.
The division-leader Chicago Blackhawks come to Xcel Energy Center Thursday for a clash with the Wild.
