Vikings backup quarterback Joe Webb will be shifted to wide receiver, according to Star Tribune columnist Sid Hartman.
As Sid puts it: “Those who thought Joe Webb had no future as a quarterback should be happy, because the former Alabama-Birmingham standout has become a full-time wide receiver for the Vikings.”
Webb, widely considered one of the better athletes on the roster, is also expected to contribute to special teams.
The decision was made after the Vikings signed free agent quarterback Matt Cassel and drafted wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson.
NBCSports.com’s Mike Florio figures Patterson is a long-term project, and shifting Webb to wideout could pay immediate dividends. In his words: Webb arguably can’t be too upset about the move. He finally got a chance to show what he could do at quarterback during the 2012 playoffs, and he failed badly.
